Legacy .NET System Modernisation for a Healthcare Platform
Incrementally modernised a .NET Framework monolith serving clinical and quality workflows for 12,000+ users—migrating to .NET 8 without disrupting daily operations.
The Challenge
A healthcare software platform built on .NET Framework faced mounting technical debt, security vulnerabilities, and slow feature delivery for quality and compliance modules. A full rewrite was too risky for a system serving 12,000+ users across production clinical workflows—the organisation needed a phased modernisation that preserved business continuity.
Our Approach
Our team applied the strangler-fig pattern—extracting bounded contexts into .NET 8 services behind an API gateway, containerising workloads on Azure Kubernetes Service, and building comprehensive automated test suites to protect clinical and quality workflows throughout migration. Legacy WebForms modules were gradually replaced with ASP.NET Core APIs while maintaining shared SQL Server data layers.
Outcomes
- 60% of monolith functionality migrated to modern .NET 8 services
- Deployment frequency increased from quarterly to bi-weekly releases
- Zero unplanned downtime during the 18-month modernisation programme
- Cloud-ready architecture supporting future Azure-native capabilities
